Q

Inactive Vaccines?

A

Problem pathogen killed and inactivated to not develop into full blown disease, just triggering immune response and teaching body to recognise an attack by profile pathogens

Q

Subunit Vaccines?

A

One part of pathogen - antigen. Ingredient that triggers immune response by isolating pathogens. Vaccines can prompt specific responses.

Q

Passive Immunity?

A

Administration of antitoxins containing antibodies against pathogen or toxin. Not long term protection as level of antibodies declines over several weeks.

Q

Active Immunity?

A

When immune system is exposed to foreign antigens associated with specific infections, if exposed to same disease again the body will be able to neutralise or minimise the threat.

Q

Attenuation?

Q

Rabbit Vaccines?

A

Myxomatosis and Viral Haemorrhagic Disease

17
Q

MDA?

A

Maternally Derived Antibodies - passed from mothers to their offspring via placenta and in the first milk. This is referred to as passive immunity.

18
Q

Primary Vaccines?

A

First Vaccination given as MDAs begin to fall, causing antibodies to develop within 7-10 days.
Second dose administered 2-4w later, produces second wave of antibody production much more quickly, within a 12-24hr period.
Final dose given at 10-12 weeks

19
Q

Vaccine Storage?

A

Stored between 2-4 degrees
