16
Q

What is left within the nephron?

A

Urea, excess salts and water

17
Q

When can glucose be present in urine?

A

Underlying medical condition

18
Q

Process of taking back materials needed is known as?

A

Selective Reabsorption

19
Q

Tubule that comes before the loop of henle is known as the?

A

Proximal Convoluted Tubulue

20
Q

Tubule that comes after the Loop of Henle?

A

Distal Convoluted Tubule

21
Q

What happens in the ascending limb of the Loop of Henle?

A

Materials rise up

22
Q

What happens in the descending limb of the Loop of Henle?

A

Materials fall down

23
Q

What happens at the collecting duct of the nephron?

A

Material from tubule enters and goes down until exiting kidney through ureter to then exit the body

24
Q

What happens at the glomerulus?

A

Dirty blood enters and materials are separated via glomerulus, filtrate contains waste and some good materials which enters tubule.

25
Q

Where does filtrate waste travel too?

A

It exits to body via the urine

26
Q

Where does clean blood travel to?

A

Out of kidneys via the renal vein and back into circulation

27
Q

Is the descending limb of the Loop of Henle permeable to water?

A

Yes

28
Q

Is the ascending limb of the Loop of Henle permeable to water?

A

No, this is impermeable and contains sodium pumps meaning the filtrate becomes less concentrated

29
Q

What happens at the Loop of Henle?

A

The filtrate becomes concentrated in the Loop of Henle as water, sodium ions and chloride ions are reabsorbed.

30
Q

If a patient had low blood pressure, what would this mean with the functioning of the kidneys?

A

There would not be enough pressure to force water and molecules through the glomerulus wall to filter as this only works at high pressure which would not be available if the patient had a low blood pressure reading.
