Vaccination as health care strategies Flashcards
What type of IG is passively transferred I.U? Why?
IgG
It can pass through tissues/placenta
What type of Ig is passively transferred during lactation?
Secretory IgA
At what age does the immune response fully develop? Describe levels before this
4-5
Before birth = high levels of mother IgG
At birth these drop as they are not being transferred across placenta
IgM slowly increase (they Strat being made at low levels before birth)
Between birth and 1 = highly vulnerable
What is herd immunity?
Majority of population are vaccinated which protects the susceptible minority as they chain of infection decreases
How is measles spread?
Symptoms?
Sneezing, coughing
Cold like, fever, loss of appetite, Kopliks spots
Why is MMR vaccine more effective than measles vaccine?
It is a combination vaccine = adjuvant effect
Why is it critical to establish herd immunity?
To protect susceptible population e.g. unimmunised babies or patients in leukaemia reminission
Why are young people more susceptible to measles?
Demographic - Uni, festivals
What is the effect of measles on pre-existing immunity?
Causes immune suppression and decreased memory
