IAH - Immune response to bacterial infections Flashcards
Function of Th17, Th1, Th2, TFH, Treg?
Re-enforcment of inflammation (innate) Activation of macrophages Activation of mast cells Activation of B cells in lymph node Suppression of immune response
How do Th1 promote recruitment of macrophages?
Macrophages express NHC II and display complementary antigen, Th1 binds and releases cytokines (CD40, IFN gamma) - promoting activation and recruitment
If pathogens resists the immune response what occurs?
Chronic inflammation
What is the difference in response if APC expresses lots vs little MHC II?
Lots = drives Th1 response = activates macrophage Little = drives Th2 response = activates mast cells = not good for intracellular infections
Why are mucosal surfaces vulnerable to infection?
Thin permeable layer excuse of physiological functions (absorption and secretion)
What feature of mucosal surfaces in SI allows specialised antigen-uptake?
M-cell of Peyer’s patch
What are the effector functions of mucosal surfaces?
Lots of memory T cells, IgA, commensal mcirobiotia
3 properties of microbiota at mucosa
Synthesise AMPs
Stimulate epithelial cells to secrete AMPs
Compete with pathogens
