Uterine Congenital Malformations Flashcards
Form the ..
- Vagina
- Cervix
- Uterus
- Fallopian tubes
Mullein ducts
- Failure of formation
- Failure of fusion
- Failure of dissolation
- failure of disappearance
4 categories of Anomalous Genitalia
▪ Complete agenesis- no vagina, CX, UT or tubes
▪ Partial agenesis- absence of CX and vaginal, or more common unicornuate UT and 1 fallopian tube
Failure of formation
▪ Didelphys- 2 complete duplications(2 uteri, CX, and Vagina)
▪ Bicornuate UT- Single vaginal and CX but lack of fusion of upper uterine cavity (heart shaped)
Failure of fusion
▪ Septate UT- single vagina and CX but uterine septum (endo)partially or completely separates into 2
**Appearance is most like a normal UT
Failure of dissolution
▪ Failure of disappearance of structures that normally do not persist. M/C eg. Gartner Cyst (lateral vagina wall cyst resulting from remnants of Wolffian duct)
Failure of dissapearnce
- Results of either mullein duct and or urogenital sinus malformation
- vaginal atresia, separations or duplications
Vagina Congenital malformation
Endo and ovary respond to estrogen and progesterone levels in blood to
regulate hormones
If estradiol levels decrease hypothalamus produces ______
GnRH & more
GnRH(gonadotropin) comes from the ______
FSH - pituitary gland
Hypothalamus comes from the ____
LH (pituitary)
FSH produced in pituatry gives rise to produce
Estrogen which is in ovary
LH in pituatry gives rise to produce
progesterone which is in corpus luteum
- Stimulates growth & development of OV follicles
- follicles produce estrogen which stimulates endometrial growth
- As follicles from increase estradiol helps them to respond to LH and ovulation
FSH (follicle stimulating hormone)
o Stimulates maturation and ovulation of Graafian follicle & subsequent corpus luteum formation
o LH stimulates progesterone production which peaks after ovulation
o If implantation occurs hCG production signals corpus luteum to continue progesterone secretion which prevents endo shedding
o If NO implantation progesterone ↓ & permits shedding of endo
LH (lutenizing hormone)
