Pelvic Anatomy Flashcards
Sacrum (posterior)
Coccyx (posterior
Ilium (lateral)
Ischium (lateral)
Bony Pelvis (4 bones)
Bounded by iliac wings & sacrum posteriorly, sits above symphysis pubis supporting abdominal viscera (anterior & lateral)
False pelvis ( major pelvis)
Sits below symphysis pubis (anterior) and sacral prominence (posterior) & bordered inferiorly by muscles of pelvic floor
True pelvis (lesser pelvis)
Group of pelvic muscles consisting of the levator ani and coccyges muscles that provide support to the pelvic organs
Pelvic diaphragm
The pelvis can be further divides into true and false pelvis by an imaginary line called ____
Linea terminalisis
In the absence in nongravid pt. the uterus ovaries and adnexa are located in the ___ pelvis
True
Bind bones
Osseous
Binds sacrum and iliac
Sacroilliac
Bind sacrum , iliac and coccyx
Sacrosciatic
Binds sacrum & coccyx
Sacrococcygeal
Bind the two pubic rami
Pubic
Supports uterus and ovaries
Suspensory
Supports uterus superior and lateral & inferior from vaina
Cardinal
Extends from lateral uterus to pelvic side wall and surrounds Fallopian tubes
Broad
Posterior laterally from cerxiz encircle the rectum inserting into sacrum
sacro-uterine
anterior & inferior to broad ligament & fallopian tubes attaching uterus cornu to anterior pelvic wall
round ligament
attaches inferior ovary to lateral uterus, posterior to Fallopian tubes
ovarian
attaches ovary posteriorly to broad ligament
mesovarium
- Rectus abdominus
- psosas major
- iliacus
False pelvis muscles
Anterior margin from symphysis pubis to coastal margin
rectus abdominus
merges with iliacus creating iliopsas muscle forming lateral margin of pelvic basin
psosas major
extends inferior & merges with psosas forming iliac fossa on side walls
Iliacus
Most commonly mistaken for an ovary
Iliopsoas muscle
- Levitor ani
- Coccygeus
- Obturator internus
- Periformis
True pelvis muscles
Attch to side of true pelvis extending medially to opposite side forming floor of pelvic cavity
Levitor ani
arises from spine & sacrosciatic ligaments closing ti the posterior part of pelvic diagraphmn
Coccygeus
Muscle from anterior lateral wall of pelvis
Obturator internus
Arise from sacrum, passes laterally & posterior in pelvis (can not see)
