Urine And Renal Function Flashcards
What does a short loop nephron do?
Makes dilute urine with no ADH
When is dilute urine made?
If there is too much water or too few ions, dilute urine must be made to concentrate the blood z
How do you concentrate the blood?
Urine made has to be more dilute in ions than the blood
What is blood osmolarity?
300 mosm/l
What does ADH do?
Puts water pores into the collecting duct to let water get across
What does a long loop nephron do?
Makes concentrated urine with ADH
When is concentrated urine made?
If there is too many ions or too little water
What is the concentration capacity of urine?
1200 mosm/L
What are diuretics?
Work by inhibiting the Na+ K+ Cl- pumps in the ascending loop of henle so there is decreased water reuptake and more urine
How does ADH work?
Leads to the fusion of aquaporin 2 to the basolateral membrane of the collecting ducts
When is ADH released?
When high osmolarity is detected by osmoreceptors in the hypothalamus (if it’s too salty)
How is ADH released?
High osmolarity stimulates the neurosecretory cells in the hypothalamus to release ADH
What is urinalysis?
Analyzes the volume, physical, chemical and microscopic properties of urine
What is blood analysis?
Looking at levels of waste product.
What does waste in the blood mean?
Kidney’s aren’t working
What is normal urine volume?
1-2L
