Urban Issues and Challenges - General Flashcards
What are the patterns of urban change in HICs
- richer HICs are highly urbanised, with North America being the most urbanised region. 73% of the population in Europe live in urban areas.
Urbanisation in these regions is rapidly slowing down and even reversing (counter-urbanisation) as people decide to leave crowded cities for the peace of the countryside
What are the patterns of urban change in LICs
- poorer LICs are still predominantly rural, with Africa being only 40% urban.
These countries are experiencing the fastest rate of urbanisation with Africa being expected to reach 56% by 2050
what are the global patterns of urban change
The world is becoming increasingly urbanised.
In 1950, 30% of world population were urban, 54% in 2014, and projected to reach 66% by 2050
