Upper limb nerves Flashcards
What roots do the superior, middle, and inferior trunks come off of? What cords do they give rise to?
Superior - C5 and C6
Gives rise to the lateral and the posterior cords
Middle - C7
Gives rise to the lateral and posterior cords
Inferior - C8 and T1
Gives rise to the medial and posterior cord
What branches does the lateral, posterior and medial cords give rise to?
Lateral cord - Musculocutaneous nerve and the median nerve
Posterior cord - Axillary nerve and the radial nerve
Medial cord - Median nerve and the ulnar nerve
Generally, which branches innervates the forearm extensors?
Median nerve
What nerve innervates teres minor, triceps and deltoids?
Axillary nerve
Which nerve innervates biceps, brachialis, and coracobrachialis?
Musculocutaneous nerve
Which nerve branch is most medial? What does it innervate?
Ulnar nerve. Digiti minmi, 3rd, 4th lumbricals, 1st dorsal and palmer interosseous, flexor pollicus brevis, adductor pollucis
also flexor carpi ulnaris and flexor digitorum profundus 3 and 4
What nerve innervates forearm flexors ad pronators… and passes under the flexor retinaculum?
Median nerve
What artery runs btw the lateral, medial and posterior cords of the brachial plexus?
axillary artery
Which two scalene muscles do the roots of the brachial plexus originate from?
Btw the Anterior and Medius scalene
