Unit Four- Homeostasis Steady State Flashcards
what is homeostasis
a constant internal condition is maintained despite changes in external environment
what are 3 example of homeostasis
-blood glucose levels
-body temp
-blood pressure
what are the three components of homeostatic systems
sensor, control centre, effector
what does the sensor in the homeostatic system do
senses stimuli and sends info to control centre
what does the control centre of homeostatic systems do
takes in info and evaluates the situation, sends message to effectors
what do effectors in homeostatic systems do
receive info and react
what is a negative feedback loop
changes in the body’s condition are detected and reversed to a set point
ex: blood glucose level
what is a positive feedback loop
a process in which body senses a change and activates mechanisms that accelerate/increase changes
ex; child birth
