here are three main types of literature:
prose, drama, and poetry.
science fiction
Most science fiction takes place in space, in the future, or in an alternate reality. Characters may include aliens or other beings. Technology often plays an important role in the setting and plot.
folktale
A folktale is a story or legend thatโs been passed on orally for many years, often to teach a lesson or explain how something came to be. Many folktales include animal characters.
adventure
Characters in adventure stories go on an exciting and dangerous journey. They often face dangers posed by the natural world, such as forest fires or wild animals. Characters face challenges bravely and grow from their experiences.
realistic fiction
Realistic fiction features characters and events like those in real life. Stories can be set in the past as well as the present, but history isnโt central to the plot the way it is in historical fiction.
historical fiction
In historical fiction, some characters are made up, while others are historical figures. Historical events are central to the action in the story.
fantasy
Fantasy stories feature highly imaginative settings, characters, and events. They often include supernatural elements and beings such as dragons and wizards.
parallel plots
two separate plots in the same literary text
plot
the main events or action in a narrative
structure
the way the parts of a narrative are organized
by describing characters with different expectations for the same event, what does create
The writer creates surprise in this narrative by describing characters with different expectations for the same event.
What is a parallel plot like
When writers create parallel plots, the narrative usually moves back and forth between the plots. The writer describes the first few events from one plot and then describes events from the other plot.
What are parallel plot create
Just as writers can use parallel plots to achieve the effect of surprise, they can also use this structure to achieve the effect of mystery or tension. Almost all stories with parallel plots have the plots overlap at some point. In the narrative about the play, the plots overlapped at the audition. When it is not clear to the reader when or how parallel plots will overlap, it can create a sense of mystery or tension.
When a writer uses the structure of parallel plots, they usually do the following:
- Plan for a place where the plots overlap.
- Have at least parts of the plots occur during the same period of time.
- Use parallel plots to create an effect, such as mystery, tension, or surprise.
