Unit 3 Lesson 3: Multiple Accounts Flashcards
lede
the introductory section of a news article
perspective
the opinion or viewpoint conveyed by an author
print media
forms of printed communication such as newspapers and magazines
visual media
forms of pictorial communication such as photographs and videos
Traditionally, a lede features the 5Ws:
who, what, when, where, why (and sometimes how).
What does the lede do
In that way, the lede summarizes the story quickly and may set the scene for what is to come, making the reader want to read on.
What is the purpose of lede
Most news articles open with a lede, an introductory sentence or paragraph designed to interest the reader in the topic of the article.
Do vedio news stories include ledes
Video news stories like those we view on local television also feature ledes. In a quick sentence or two, the reporter summarizes the central ideas in the story, accompanying the voice-over with video that illustrates the words.
How does print media work
Print media use words to convey a message, although they may also include examples of visual media, such as photographs or graphics.
How does visual media work
Visual media, such as video or television, use pictures to convey a message, adding audio components where appropriate.
Print media VS visual media on how tone is used
In print media, the reader is affected mainly by word choice, but in visual media, the tone is set not only with words but also with choices of pictures, video, and sound effects.
How does an author establish tone
The author establishes a tone by choosing words that reflect the author’s point of view about the topic.
