What is extremism?
Believing in and supporting ideas that
are very far away from what most people consider
correct or reasonable.
What is radicalization?
The process by which someone becomes a religious
extremist.
What do religious extremists believe?
Some religious believers feel justified in acting in
certain ways to uphold their beliefs or try to make
others believe.
Name 3 examples of religious extremism groups.
Robert Lewis Dear
Christianity: Westboro Baptist Church
Islam: Jihadist groups (e.g. ISIS)
What did Robert Lewis Dear believe?
He believes the Bible condemns abortions and by attacking people who
worked at the clinic was ‘doing God’s work’
What does the Westboro Baptist Church believe?
They are considered a hate group that protests about lots of things. example: homosexuals and abortions.
What do Jihadist groups believe in?
Some extremist Muslim groups, known as Jihadis believe that it is
their duty to wage a “holy war”, or “jihad” against the enemies of
Islam.
Groups such as, Al-Qaeda, ISIS and the Taliban use violent methods,
including acts of terrorism to bring about their aims.
