What is Shariah Law?
The set of moral and religious rules that put the rules outlined in the Quran and Hadiths into practice.
What is absolute morality?
An ethical belief that something is right/wrong regardless of context or consequence.
What is relative morality?
An ethical belief that may be changed or excused due to current situation.
What is the religion of the speaker and what attitude to morality do they have: ‘Islam needs to modernize if it wants to deal with the different moral dilemmas in 21st century.’
Muslim- Relative morality
What is the religion of the speaker and what attitude to morality do they have: ‘The 10 commandments give us clear rules to follow in all situations, for example do not murder.’
Christian- Absolute morality
What is the religion of the speaker and what attitude to morality do they have: ‘Jesus taught us to ‘‘Love your neighbor’’ , which means it’s important to decide what the most loving thing is to do in each situation.’
Christian- Relative morality
What is the religion of the speaker and what attitude to morality do they have: ‘The law of Allah is unchanging and is not based on society norms but his will as revealed in the Quran.’
Muslim- Absolute morality
What did St Thomas Aquinas believe?
He believed the conscience is the way a human works out what is right and wrong- it must be educated.
What did Cardinal Newman believe?
He called the conscience the ‘voice of God’- God helps us know what’s right/ wrong through our conscience
What do Muslims believe about the conscience?
They believe its a gift from Allah and should be listened too alongside Shariah Law, however it can be wrong if a person has turned from Allah.
What are virtues?
Personal qualities that people should show.
What are sins?
Deliberate actions a person does that breaks religious laws- God’s rules
Name the 7 virtues (good attributes) Catholics believe in?
Love, faith, hope, wisdom, courage, moderation & fairness
Name the 7 deadly sins that Catholics believe in?
Lust, gluttony (excess in eating/drinking, basically when ur fat), greed, sloth (lazy), Wrath (hatred/anger), envy and pride.
What is free will?
Both Muslims and Christians believe that they have the choice to make right/wrong decisions.
