Right to rule over self
Sovereignty
A group of people who have certain things in common
Nation
A nation of people who fulfill the qualification of a state. Ex-Iceland and Japan
Nation-State
A country that contains more than one nation. Ex: Quebec and Nunavut
Multinational States
A defined area within a state that has a high degree of self-government & freedom from its parent state
Autonomous Regions
A state that has a degree of self-government but not complete self-rule. Ex-Native American reservations
Semi-Autonomous Regions
A cultural group that has no independent political entity
Stateless Nation
Occurs when a nation has a state of its own but stretches across borders of other states. Ex: Hungary
Multistate Nations
A desire to create & maintain a state of its own
Nationalism
Things that bring people together

The concept includes various ways of influencing another country or group of people by direct conquest, economic control, or culture.

Type of imperialism in which people move into & settle onto the land of another country.
