Unit 11.1 Flashcards
What is a Genotype?
An individuals allele combination.
What is Homozygous mean?
Both of the same allele
What does heterozygous mean?
Two different alleles
What is a phenotype?
The visible trait that the alleles cause
What is a Genotype ratio?
The ratio genotypes of the combinations of the traits in a punnet square.
What is a phenotype ratio?
The ratio of the phenotypes of a combination of traits in a punnet square
What is the difference between dominant and recessive?
Dominant is the allele that only takes one to cause a trait while recessive takes two of the allele to have the trait show.
What is codominence?
This is when both of an individuals allele are visible in its phenotype.
How did Mendel set up his genetic experiments?
He took two pea plants and took out the male parts of one and pollenated the other pea plant. He then saw how they reproduced and did multiple rounds of reproduction and recorded the information
Explain how a test cross works?
This is when you draw out all of the possible combinations of different alleles. You take the first two and connect them to all the others, the move to the second, third and so on.
Predict genotypic and phenotypic ratios for a trait with a dominant and recessive pattern
Predict genotypic and phenotypic ratios for a trait that is codominant
Predict genotypic and phenotypic ratios for a trait that has multiple alleles
