Unit 1: Slideshows Flashcards
Positive Correlation
Two variables increase and decrease together
Negative Correlation
Two variables move in opposite directions
Strong Correlation
More predictable variables
Weak correlation
Less predictive variables
Scatterplot
A graph comprised of points generated by values of two variables. The slope of the points shows the direction, and the amount of scatter shows correlation
Correlation coefficent
“R”, it always falls between +1 and -1, 0 means no correlation
What are the three types of research?
Descriptive, Correlation, and Experiment
Naturalistic Observation
Observation of human or animal behavior in the environment where it typically occurs
Case Study Pros and Cons
Pros: useful when something is new, complex, or fairly rare
Cons: are unlikely to be representative of people in general
