What are the seven things to include in an academic reference?
1) Author
2) Year of publication
3) Article title (single inverted commas)
4) Journal title (italics)
5) Volume of journal
6) Issue number of journal (brackets)
7) Page range of article
What does the subsection abstract include?
= summary of research outlining the method, participants, results and conclusions.
What does the subsection introduction include?
= considers area of psychology (location, study of memory/obedience). focuses on previous research which has been carried out, conflicting research, which current research aims to clarify, justifies current research and identifies aim. ends with alternative or null hypothesis.
What does the subsection method include?
= all details necessary for someone to be able to carry out the same research with the same conditions.
- sample (obtaining, number, age, gender)
- design
- materials/apparatus (word lists, tests, etc)
- procedure
What does the subsection results include?
= raw data, verbal summaries, descriptive statistics (graphs provide easy comparisons), inferential statistics (evidence for acceptance of alternative or null hypothesis).
What does the subsection discussion include?
= focuses on what the study has discovered. alternative explanations/evaluations for improvements, new ideas to pursue.
What does the subsection references include?
= all work cited in article should be referenced.
What does the subsection appendices include?
= contains materials (calculations or data, etc) that are necessary if repeating research and fully understand.
