Unit 1 - Raw Data Flashcards
What is raw data?
= data that psychologists collect for each participant.
What is the design of raw data recording tables?
= includes right answers and the time taken to complete a task. Is not subjected to mathematical analysis.
What is the use of raw data recording tables?
= to get an overview of the data and to identify any anomalous data.
What is standard form?
= used when dealing with extremely large
e.g: 300,000 = 3 x 10^5 (3 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10)
What is decimal form?
= used once any analysis of data is carried out, whole numbers disappear, and decimal takes over.
e.g: median for ‘2, 3, 4, 5’ would be 3.5.
What are significant figures?
= used rather than writing a full number.
When are estimations from data made?
= if they didn’t have individual scores from a set of grouped data.
