What is repeated measures design?
Uses the same people in each condition.
What is a strength of repeated measures?
Results are more reliable, less participants required, participant variables.
What is a weakness of repeated measures?
Extraneous variables (e.g. demand characteristics, order effects, etc)
What is independent measures design?
Uses different people in each condition.
What is a strength of independent measures?
No order effects.
What is a weakness of independent measures?
Participant variables.
What is matched participants design?
Uses different people, but an attempt is made to make them as similar as possible on key characteristics.
What is a strength of matched design?
Reduces participant variables.
What is a weakness of matched design?
Time consuming, less generalisable.
