Ulnar Nerve Lesions Flashcards
Pathway- ulnar nerve
-Exits from c7 + T1 + the medial cord of brachial plexus
-it then travels anteriorly to the shoulder jt, through the axilla + enters in the septum between biceps + triceps, where it courses down the posteromedial arm
-it then wraps around the medial epicondyle through the tunnel defined by the arcade of strathers + the medial intermolecular septum superiorly + the flexor carpi unlaris dismally
-it travels the medial forearm, passes under gyons tunnel + into the ring + little finger
Muscles innervated by ulnar nerve
-Flexor carpi ulnaris
-opponens digiti minimi
-abductor digiti minimi
-Flexor digiti minimi
-palmar interossei
-dorsal interossei
-Adductor pollicis
-Deep head of policis brevis
Compression sites
Cubital tunnel
Tunnel of gyon
Causes ulnar nerve lesions
-fracture of medial epicondyle, mid-forearm or wrist
-dislocation of the elbow
-pathology such as leprosy
-prolonged compression from resting elbow on hard surface
-repetitive action causing stress on the nerve
-direct trauma
Claw hand
Complete ulnar lesions with claw hand. Little finger is hyperextended + abducted + flexed at interphalangeal jt. Ring finger is hyperextended as well as flexed
