Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Flashcards
Definition- thoracic outlet Syndrome
Conpressionbof the brachial plexus + jts accompanying artery
Anterior scalene syndrom
Between anterior + mid scalene
Pec minor syndrome
At corocoid process + pec minor
Castioclavicular syndrome
Between clavicle + first rib
Causes TOS
-internal > bony callus, cervical rib
-external >compression (crutches)
-poor posture > (prolonged) hyperkyphosis, Scoliosis, HT + TPs
-Systemic/metabolic disorders> RA, diabetes
-trauma > whiplash
-jt subluxation > cerve spine
-pregnancy
Causes neuropraxia > symptoms
Local pain, sensory loss/motor loss, weakness, trophic changes
Double crush syndrome
Compressed in more than one location
Describe cervical rib
-additional rib that forms at transverse process of C7.
-can be small or as long as first rib
-it narrows the interscalene triangle, which compress the vascular bundle
Anterior scalene syndrom
-the brachial plexus + subclavian artery pass in between the anterior + mid scalenes. Will experience mainly ulnar nerve symptoms
- TPs in the scalenes will cause px in low lateral neck, rotating to lat shld/arm, over chest, medial scapular boarder
