Sciatic Nerve Lesions Flashcards
Pathway- sciatic nerve lesions
-extends from L4 to S3 of the lumbosacral plexus
-it passes out of the pelvis through the greater sciatic foramen below the Piriformis
-then travels between the greater trochanter + the ischial tuberosity
-along the posterior thigh following adductor magnus down the leg
-through popliteal fossa and bifurcates into the Tibial + Peroneal nerves
Muscles innervated by the sciatic nerve
-Hams
-1/2 of adductor magnus
●Tibial division
-GN/SOL
-plantaris
-popliteus
-tib post
-Flexor Digitorum longus
-Flexor hallicus longus
-intrinsic foot mms
●common Peroneal division
-extensor longus/ brevis
-extensor Digitorum longus/ brevis
-tib ant
-Peroneal longus tertius
Drop foot
Paralysis in dorsiflexion + evertors causes foot to hang in plantar flexion + inversion
Claw toe
Due to loss of Intrinsic foot muscles with Tibial nerve lesion leading to hyperextension of the MTP jt + flexion IP jts
