Types of Data Flashcards
Qualitative data
Non-numerical data.
Quantitative
Numerical data.
Primary data
Data collected first hand by the researcher.
Secondary Data
Data that already exists, collected by other people. It is usually readily available.
Strength of qualitative data
More detail, allowing you to find out why.
Weakness of qualitative data
Time consuming as its hard to analyse. Hard to spot patterns between answers.
Strength of quantitative data
Easy to analyse data and easy to spot patterns in the data collected.
Weakness of quantitative data
Less detail collected so cannot find out why people put the answer they did.
Strength of primary data
Collected first hand by researcher increasing validity as it is more trustworthy.
Weakness of primary data
Time consuming to collect all the data themselves.
Strength of secondary data
Readily available and less time consuming.
Weakness of secondary data
Less valid as you do not know who collected the research and if you can trust the results of the data.
