What are open questions ?
Allow you to answer freely with no set of pre-determined answers. “Why do you like psychology ?”
What is a strength of open questions ?
High in construct validity as you get to find out why a participant put they answer they put.
What is a weakness of open questions ?
Hard to sport patterns and trends as it produces qualitative data.
What is a closed question ?
Question with a set of pre-determined responses. “On a scale of 1-10, how much do you like pizza ?”
What is a strength of a closed question ?
Easier to sport patterns and trends as it produces quantitative data.
What is a weakness of a closed question ?
Lacks construct validity. Don’t get to find out why a participant put what they put.
What is a strength of a questionnaire ?
-More ethical as you can keep confidentiality.
-Quicker when a large sample is obtained
What is a weakness of a questionnaire ?
Can lead to social desirability due to leading questions.
What are structured interviews ?
Have same set of questions in a professional environment.
What is a strength of a structure interview ?
More reliable as same questions are asked so high levels of control.
What is a weakness of structured interviews ?
Can lead to social desirability as you cannot explore other questions.
What is an unstructured interview ?
No pre-determined set of questions so allows you to have a conversation with the interviewee.
What is a strength of unstructured interviews ?
Can explore interests so you can ask more questions to find more details that are needed.
What is a weakness of unstructured interviews ?
Less reliable as there is no set of questions so loses some control.
What is a semi-structured interview ?
Some pre-determined questions but the rest is unstructured.
