Levels of Data Flashcards
What is Nominal data ?
It is categorical data that can be organised into categories.
What is a strength of nominal data ?
Quickest method to show frequency.
What is a weakness of nominal data ?
No scale of frequency.
What type of central tendency is nominal data ?
Mode.
What is ordinal data ?
Points on a scale, where data can be ranked or put in order from biggest to smallest.
What is a strength of ordinal data ?
Has relative values and contains more information allowing you to order the categories.
What is a weakness of ordinal data ?
Gaps aren’t equal between categories, so you can’t do central tendency.
What type of central tendency is ordinal data ?
Median.
What is Interval data ?
Data has fixed intervals and the divisions between the points are equal. It has fixed measurements.
What is a weakness of interval data ?
No baseline if scientific method is not used as participants can demonstrate variable the scale doesn’t measure.
What is a strength of interval data ?
More information. You can measure the distance between intervals making it highly reliable.
What type of central tendency is interval data ?
Mean.
What is the strength of the median ?
Takes into account anomalous data. (Outlier)
