Experimental Designs Flashcards
Repeated Measures Design
Where participants in take part in all conditions of an experiment.
Independent Measures Design
Where participants take part in one condition of the experiment.
Match Pairs Design
Once participants are recruited based on characteristics, they are then matched to another group based on similar characteristics. This continues.
Strength of repeated measures
Less chance of individual differences affecting the results.
Weakness of repeated measures
Higher chance of order effects because participants take part in all conditions.
Strength of independent measures
Less chance of order effects as participants only take part in one condition.
Weakness of independent measures
High chance of individual differences (participant variables) affecting the results.
Strength of match pairs design
Less chance of independent variables affecting the result.
Weakness of match pairs design
Time consuming to match the pairs together.
