Stats Tests Flashcards
What is the criteria for a stats test ?
-Difference/ similarity
-Level of data (nominal/ordinal/interval)
-Experimental design (independent/repeated)
What is the criteria for Chi Squared ?
-Difference in variables.
-Nominal data.
-Independent measures.
What is the formula for Chi Squared ?
χ2 = ∑(O – E)2 /E
Writing a statement for Chi squared
X2 = ________. df = _______ p >/< 0.05
Significance of data for Chi Squared
If the observed value is equal to or grater than the critical value then the research is significant, therefore we reject the null hypothesis.
Writing a conclusion (stats test).
-Direction = The results were/ were not significant.
-How = because the observed value was less/more than critical value at a p value of 0.05.
-Therefore = you would accept/reject the null hypothesis (write null).
When do we use Spearman’s Rho ?
-Relationship between variables.
-Data is minimum of ordinal or interval.
-No IV’s or DV’s (correlation).
Spearman’s Rho formula
R = 1- 6x∑x d2 / n(n2 -1)
Significance of data In Spearman’s Rho
If the observed value is equal to or greater than the critical value, then the research is significant, therefore we reject the null hypothesis.
When do we use Mann Whitney- U
-Difference in variables.
-Ordinal or Interval data.
-Independent measure design.
Formula of Mann Whit
U1 = R1 - n1(n1+1)/2
U2 = R2 - n2(n2+1)/2
Statement for Mann Whit
Both observed values in statement.
Significance of data in Mann Whit
The observed value has to be less than or equal to the critical value to be significant, then the research is significant, therefore we reject the null hypothesis.
When do we use Wilcoxon Rank test ?
-Looking for a difference.
-Repeated measures design.
-Ordinal data.
How to use Wilcoxon rank test ?
-Find difference between conditions.
-Rank conditions - negative and positive numbers are same.
-Add sum of positive ranks.
-Add sum of negative ranks.
-Use smaller value.
