Tu - Alternative antibiotics: phage therapy Flashcards
1
Q
Bacteria (lose/gain) their fitness and virulence in becoming resistance
A
Lose
2
Q
Why do we see compensatory mutations more often than reverting fully back?
A
Because reversion is a very specific mutation, whereas compensatory mutations have more mutation options.
3
Q
Why should one chose lytic phages instead of lysogenic phages in phage therapy? (2)
A
Because bacteria stays when it’s lysogenic, and because lysogenic phages can spread virulence and resistance genes.
