Truman had heard Kennan’s long telegram and this confirmed that The USSR were planning to spread communism across europe.Truman wanted to stop this
The doctrine was made to counter the growth of the soviet bloc during the cold war as Truman felt the US could no longer sit back and watch the Soviets expand into free independent nations

It was a plan created by Truman to stop communism spreading throughout europe.

Truman knew that many european countries were in ruins so decided to provide political, military and economic assistance who were under the threat of external or internal authoritarian forces.

Coniform - was set up in order to keep the communist countries in line and to make sure they didn’t defect to the other side
