Troubleshooting Mobile Apps( Comptia Objective 3.4) Flashcards
If you’re having an issue with a dim display for your mobile device what steps can you take to fix this?
If it’s difficult to see the details on the device even in low light then you will want to:
- Check the brightness setting. in IOS you will go to settings/ display and brightness and in android Settings/ Display / Brightness level.
- If changing the brightness level doesn’t work then you may have to replace the bad display.( Backlight issue)
If you’re having issues with a mobile devices wireless connectivity then what steps can you take to address this?
- If having issues with intermittent connectivity you can try moving closer to the access point or trying a different access point.
- If you have no wireless connectivity you can check/unable wifi on that device.
- You can also check the security key configuration.
- If you think the issue maybe related to the mobile device itself you can try a hard reset to restart the wireless subsystem.
- If having an issue with no Bluetooth connectivity check/enable bluetooth on that device
- Check/Pair Bluetooth component
- Perform a hard reset to restart the Bluetooth subsystem.
If you’re having an issue broadcasting to a monitor what can you do?
Broadcasting to a TV usually requires a streaming device such as a Apple TV, Xbox or Playstation, chromecast, Roku or having a smart TV.
- You will want to check app requirements( Every broadcast device is different)
- All devices must be on the same wireless network( Can’t mix your private and guest network
- Signal strength is important between phone and television and internet.
A common issue with mobile devices is when you have a Non-responsive touchscreen. How can you troubleshoot this issue?
- If the touchscreen goes completely black or the touchscreen is not responding to inputs(buttons screen presses do not register) then you will want to:
- On a Apple IOS device restart: press the power button, slide to power off and press the power button or hold down the power button and Home button/Volume button for 10 seconds. This performs a soft reset.
- On Android device to restart : If possible remove the battery, put back in and power on. Or :
- Hold down the power button and volume down button until it restarts this performs a soft reset.
- Note some phones have different key combinations and some phones do not have a key based reset.
If you are having app issues such as problematic apps that are not loading or have slow performance then how can you address this?
- Try restarting the phone( hold down the power button and power it off and restart.)
- Stop the app and restart it to do this :
In IOS double tap the home button | Slide up, slide app up.
In Android : Go to settings/apps, select app and hit the “ force stop” button. - If these issues keep happening then you can update the app to the latest version of contact the application developer to inform them of the issue and seek any possible solutions.
If you are unable to decrypt an email on a mobile device what can be the cause of this and how can you fix this issue?
- Emails should be protected using encryption communication channels.
- Typically this is built into corporate email systems such as Microsoft Outlook
- Each user has a private key and you can’t decrypt an email on your mobile device without the key.
- Typically each user has a private key that they use to decrypt emails when they log in with their credentials.
- Normally this is all taken care of by a systems administrator using the Mobile Device Manager( MDM) and individual private keys are installed on every device so if your device doesn’t have this installed you will need to contact your system admin to install your key.
What can be the cause of Short battery life of your mobile device and how can this be fixed?
- Can be caused by bad reception( Your device is always searching for a signal) airplane mode on the ground.
- To help fix this issue you can disable unnecessary features such as 802.11 Wireless, Bluetooth and GPS.
- Might also want to check for application battery usage. To do this is IOS check Settings/ Battery and in Android settings/battery. This will tell you what app may be causing the battery to drain.
- The issue also may be related to an aging battery. A mobile device only has so many recharges during it’s lifecycle if the issue is caused by an aging battery then the only solution would be to replace it.
Why is overheating such a concern with mobile devices and how can you help mitigate it happening?
- If your phone overheats it will automatically shut down( To avoid overheating damage)
- The Sun, Charging/discharging a battery, CPU usage and display light can all create heat.
- You can check and see if an application is causing overheating due to CPU usage by going into your devices settings and looking at the app usage chart.
- You will want to avoid direct sunlight hitting your device as this will quickly cause the device to shutdown.
Sometimes your device will become frozen and won’t respond to screen or button responses how can you fix this issue?
- Perform a soft reset( Hold power button down and turn off)
- Or try a hard reset in IOS by holding down the power and the home button/volume for 10 seconds and in Android by different combinations of power, home and volume button.
- If you find your mobile device still isn’t responding after trying a soft and hard reset or that the device is having this as an ongoing problem then you may wish to perform a factory reset which deletes all of your data and starts the device fresh. Install the latest operating system and reload.
If you have no sound coming from a mobile device how can you go about troubleshooting this issue?
- If there is no sound from a particular app check the devices volume settings in both the app and the phone settings itself.
- Check and see if you maybe have bad software, ,an app may need to be deleted and then reinstalled.
- Try using headphones and see if you have sound then coming from the device to see if there is an issue with the speakers built into the device instead of overall sound issues.
- If you find that sound starts then stops then you may have an issue with two apps competing for the same speakers( Dueling apps). Keep the app in the foreground which you want to listen to.
- If you have no speaker sound from any app( No alarm, no music no audio) then you will want to make sure your device is using the latest software, update as required.
- If none of these options seem to work then you will want to consider a factory reset.
If you are having an issue with Inaccurate touch screen response or is unresponsive what is the reason for this and how can you fix it?
- Often can be caused by low memory try closing some apps and see if this fixes the issue.
- If the digitizer still isn’t working correctly you can try restarting the device which is a soft reset or try a hard reset if the soft reset doesn’t work
- If these fixes don’t fix the issue then the issue may require a hardware fix. Try replacing the digitizer or reseat the cables,.
When it comes to system lockouts on a mobile device what happens after a certain number of failed login passwords?
- IOS will erase the phone after 10 failed attempts. This setting can be disabled but delays increase with failed attempts.
- Android also locks or wipes the phone after a certain number of failed attempts. Use google login to unlock the phone.
Because mobile device log files are hidden by default how can they be acceessed?
- Most log information is hidden. You’ll need developer tools to view it.
- The logs have a wealth of information if you can decipher it. This might take a bit of research.
- In order to view these logs on IOS you will require the Xcode app and on Android you will need the Logcat app.
