In macOS what can be used to view everything that’s currently running on your system?

A
  • Mission Control and Spaces
  • Quickly view everything that’s running on your system similar to Windows tab in Windows
  • Spreads out the desktop into a viewable area
  • Can be accessed by swiping upwards on the touchpad with three fingers or using the Control-UP arrow
  • You can not only have a single view of all of the open applications but you can also create separate desktops to move applications to out of view. This is called “ Spaces” . You can add Spaces inside of Mission Control

  • Keychain
  • Integrated into the OS( Keychain access)
  • Provides a list of Passwords and Secure notes which are encrypted with 3DES
  • Login password is the key to access this information.

To search for files, apps or images inside of macOS what would you use?

  • Spotlight
  • Allows users to find files, apps images etc. ( Similar to Windows search)
  • This is the blue Magnify Glass in the upper right hand side of the screen) or can be accessed by pressing Command-Space
  • Type anything in( See what you find)
  • You can also use it to Define search categories in System preferences / Spotlight and enable and disable categories.

  • iCloud
  • Allows you to share across systems be it macOS or IOS.
  • Can also be used to backup IOS devices into the cloud.( Never lose data again)
  • Stores files in an iCloud drive( Similar to Google drive, Dropbox. Is integrated into operating systems.

  • You can do more than just point and click.
  • Can use 1, 2 or 3 fingers on the trackpad to specify certain actions( e.g use 3 fingers swipe up to access mission control) can swipe, pinch or click
  • This can be customized under System preferences/ Trackpad

  • File management( launch, delete, rename etc)

On MacOS what would allow you to remotely access a Optical drive from another computer and access those files over the network?

  • Remote Disc( Use another optical drive from another computer)
  • Has become more important over time as less and less devices include optical drives.
  • Designed for copying files
  • Will not work with audio CDs or video DVDs
    • Note in order to enable this functionality you would need to setup sharing under system preferences under Sharing. ( This appears in the Finder). You can also check the box that says “ Ask me before allowing others to use my DVD drive” for extra security.

What allows you to have fast access to commonly used applications and launch them quickly as well?

A
  • Dock ( Fast access to apps)
  • Will be shown in a row at the bottom of the screen similar to the taskbar in Windows
  • Also shows running applications( Dot underneath the icon)
  • You can also store commonly used folders in the DOC as well. And have the option of moving the DOCK to different sides of the screen or choose to auto hide it.

In macOS what would allow you to dual boot into Winndows using Mac hardware?

A
  • Boot Camp( Dual-boot into Windows)
  • Note this will require specific Apple device drivers
  • This is made possible because the background CPU architecture of Apple devices is Intel similar to Windows based PC’s.
  • Boot camp will create a special partition to run Windows and all of this is managed by the Boot Camp Assistant.
