Inside of the Control Panel where can you change various internet based options?
- Under the Network and Internet section of the control panel select the “Internet options” applet inside the Control panel
- Has various tabs to adjust different things.
What is listed under the “ General” tab inside the Internet options applet?
- Basic display
- Things such as home page settings, browsing history, cookies, saved passwords etc can be viewed here.
What is listed under the “Security” tab inside the Internet options applet?
- Has settings for different access based on site location
- 4 different categories including Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted sites and restricted sites.
- Can set security level( Medium, high, low etc) also provides ability to turn on Protected mode
What is the privacy tab used for inside the Internet Options applet of the control panel?
- allows you to control what private information will be provided by your local browser to the server.
- Provides settings for cookies, pop-up blocker and in private browsing.
What is the Content tab used for inside the Internet Options applet?
- Used for certificates and auto-complete.
What is the Connections tab used for inside the Internet Options applet?
- Used for VPN and proxy settings
What is the programs tab used for inside the internet options applet?
- Used for enabling or disabling browser add ons
- Can also select default browser info as well as plugins etc
What is the advanced tab used for inside of the Internet options applet inside the control panel?
- Provides detailed configuration options such as Accessibility options, browser options, accelerated graphics options etc
- Also provides a reset settings options for Internet Explorer as well as resetting advanced settings.
In Windows 7/8/8.1 where can you find the display settings inside the control panel?
- Go to All control panel items( small tiles) then go to the Display heading. Here you can adjust resolution, number of displays etdc
- ** Note for Windows 10 you will no longer find the display settings inside of the control panel you will find them under the Windows start menu>Settings>System>Display( or by right clicking on the desktop and setting display settings)
- This is very important for LCD displays where the output resolution must match the native resolution of the display to have the clearest possible video display.
- Can also change settings such as color depth, refresh rate and advanced display settings.
How would you go about configuring Local User accounts inside of the control panel?
- You will find them under the control panel by going to Control panel>User Accounts
- Domain accounts are stored elsewhere( which is where you will most likely be working in an organization who use Active Directory)
- Under this applet you can add new user accounts to a system and choose they account name and type( super user, basic user etc)
- Also here you can change passwords add a picture for profile etc.
- Also able to add certificate information based off user info.
If you wanted to make changes to The Windows Explorer or File Explorer app where would you do this inside the control panel?
- You would adjust this inside the Control panel > Folder Options/ File Explorer Options.
What types of things can be adjusted inside the File Explorer/Folder options applet inside the control panel?
- Here you can manage Windows Explorer/File Explorer options
- Under the general tab, windows can expand folders and choose how folders appear on screen, as well as choose if you want to single or double click to open items
- Under view tab you can select to view hidden files, hide extensions, whether you want to show thumbnails.
- Under the search tab you can able to define how the OS configures any of the search settings for any files, select various indexing options.
What is the System applet used for inside the control panel?
- Can be found inside the control panel under all control panel items>System.
- Used to view an overview of the system specs for your computer. Will tell you the power and type of cpu how much memory is installed, what version of OS etc.
- Also displays the computer name of the system being used
- Also performance info is provided including virtual memory.
What other settings can be adjusted inside the System applet inside the control panel?
- Can configure system properties such as remote settings and remote desktop as well as access the device manager and choose to turn on system protection allowing you to enable system restore features.
- You can also adjust performance based settings inside of the system properties window of the System Protection applet under the advanced tab.
What is built into Windows and acts as a firewall?
- Windows Firewall or Windows Defender Firewall
- This protects your system from attacks, scans for malicious software etc. Can be found under All control panel items> Windows Defender Firewall
