Treatment, Prev, Control of Viral Dz Flashcards
How does Acyclovir work? What is it used to tx?
It’s a analog of deoxyguanasine and it interferes w/ viral replication through competitive inhibition of viral DNA polymerase.
Tx of Herpes in humans, Feline Herpesvirus1 induced corneal ulcers, Equine herpesvirus 1 induced encephalomyelitis
How does Amantadine work and what is it used to tx?
It blocks the M2 ion channel so protons can’t be pumped into endosome and virus won’t be released. It tx’s influenza A.
What are the Neuraminidase Inhibitor drugs? What do they tx?
Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) Laninamivir Zanamivir Permivir Tx: Influenza A and B viruses
How does ZDV/AZT and ddi (Didanosine) work and what does it tx?
Nucleoside analog of thymine, competitive inhibition of reverse transcriptase activity. Used to tx FIV
HIV Protease Inhibitors
Saquinavir
Ritonavir
Indinavir
Nelffinavir
Live Attenuated Virus Vx can be produced in 3 ways. What are they?
Vx produced from naturally occurring attenuated viruses
Serial passage in cultured cells
Cold adapted mutants and reassortants
There are two types of non-replicating Virus vx, what are they?
vx produced by inactivated whole virions (killed)
vx produced by purified native viral proteins
DIVA
Differentiating infected animals from vx animals
Seriology- impossible
