transfer of learning - lesson 1 Flashcards
define the transfer of learning
= influence of a person’s previous experience from one setting/ skill drill to another situation/ skill
name the 3 categories of transfer of learning
1) skill to skill
2) theory to practice
3) training to competition
what is skill to skill?
= occurs when a skill developed in one sport has an influence on a skill in another sport
- positive = two skills have similar movement patterns
- negative = two skills have conflicting movement patterns
- zero = neither a similarity nor a conflict
what is theory to practice?
= occurs when previously learned knowledge is applied in a practical setting
- coach constructs game plans then apply them in a game
- training or game
what is training to competition?
= refers to the transfer of skills and strategies developed at training into a competitive situation
- coach must plan and implement training that replicate the demands of the game
what are the 3 effects of transfer of learning?
1) positive transfer of learning
2) negative transfer of learning
3) zero transfer of learning
what is positive transfer of learning?
= where the skill developed in one sport enhances the performance of skill in another sport
- two skills are similar in some way
- require the same info processing
what is negative transfer of learning?
= where a skill developed in one sport hinders the performance of skill in another sport
- skills are similar but have differences in technique
what is zero transfer of learning?
= where skill in one sport has no impact on the learning of a new skill in another sport
