movement analysis - lesson 3 Flashcards
what are the two movement analysis methods?
1) quantitative analysis
2) qualitative analysis
what is quantitative analysis?
- use of numbers
- body skin folds, blood lactate levels, angle + speed of release, instantaneous velocity, acceleration rate
- achieved using objective measurements
what is qualitative analysis?
- refers to the description of movement without using numbers
- must use a systemic approach
- Knudsen Morrison model
- subjective (opinion based)
what are the 5 steps of the Knudsen Morrison model?
1) preparation
2) observation phase
3) evaluation phase
4) intervention
5) re-evaluation
what is the 1st phase of the Knudsen Morrison model?
preparation phase
= coach concerned with the process of developing a prerequisite knowledge base about a particular skill
- coach must know the points of technique required to produce skill correctly
- checklist made outlining key points of technique prior to analysis
what is the 2nd phase of the Knudsen Morrison model?
observation phase
= involves systematic gathering of info about the performance or movement
- the coach must decide the best way to observe + gather info
what is the 3rd phase of the Knudsen Morrison model?
evaluation phase
= coach must identify the strengths + weaknesses of the performer, identify methods that can be used to improve performance
- coach uses a checklist
- identifies strengths + weaknesses
- coach prioritizes potential interventions
what is the 4th phase of the Knudsen Morrison model?
intervention phase = involves providing feedback + corrections - performer to improve performance - coach explains weaknesses - gives correction strategies
what is the 5th phase of the Knudsen Morrison model?
re-evaluation
= coach observes the performer implement the changes made in a similar context to the initial observation
- did they change?
