nervous system - lesson 4 Flashcards
function of motor neurons
carries the impulse away from the spinal cord
the function of sensory neurons
sends messages from receptors to the brain
- carry info that determines movement required
what is the spinal cord?
highway for neural traffic
- relays info from the brain to body + body to the brain
describe the dendrites
short branches in the spinal cord that carries impulses to the cell body
describe the cell body
direct neuron activity
describe the axon
carry impulses out of the cell body to muscle fibers
describe the motor end plates
connect axon to muscle fibers
how is a nerve impulse sent from the brain?
- the message is sent from the brain, as an AP down the spinal cord through to the motor neuron which innervates required muscle fibers
five key components of the neuromuscular system and the order they occur
sensory neuron > brain > spinal cord > motor neuron > motor unit
