A system of slavery in which enslaved people are dehumanized and treated like animals (cattle)

The act of a slaveowner voluntarily freeing a slave which often occurred at the end of a slave owners life.

The routes that 12.5 million people forcibly were shipped across from Africa to Brazil or Caribbean.

Cash-Crop plantations such as sugar, tobacco, and cotton
Why were African people primarily used as slaves?
They were black and easy to identify. They also weren’t Christian so it was okay to enslave them and they didn’t need to be paid. They also weren’t susceptible to diseases like the indigenous Americans.
How did Europeans get slaves?
They purchased them from African merchants. They traded things such as guns, alcohol, cotton, cloth, silver, etc.

They kidnapped people of rival African groups.
