New employees work for short periods in each department of the company.
What is coaching?
A senior employee guides the development of a junior member by continuously watching and offering advice.
What is mentoring?
The new employee works on their own while being paired with a more experienced staff member for advice and assistance.
What are the disadvantages of on-the-job training?

What is retraining?
Training is an ongoing process. Employees often need to be retrained to cope with the changing working environment or new department.
What can cause changes in the working environment requiring retraining?

what is self-assessment
The process of having the employee critically reflect upon their own performance, record their progress, and suggest targets for the future
What is peer assessment?
Having employees of a similar level critically comment upon the performance of a co-worker and perhaps suggest methods of improvement.
What are the benefits of peer assessment?
- employees learn from each other
- may be less critical than manager
