How can embryos be screened?

A

It is possible to get DNA from an embryo in the womb to test for disorders or analyse the genes of a cell in an embryo before implantation during IVF

What are some arguments against embryo screening?

A
  • It implies people with genetic disorders are undesirable and so could create prejudice
  • It may lead to people picking ‘desirable’ embryos
  • It is expensive

  • It will help stop people suffering
  • Treating disorders costs the Government lots of money
  • There are laws to stop it going too far (currently parent’s cant even choose the sex)
