Topic 4.5: Manufacturing processes Flashcards
Craft Production
small-scale production process centred on manual skills
mechanized productions
volume production process involving machines controlled by humans
Automated production
volume production process involving machines controlled by computers
Assembly line production
volume production process where products and components move continuously along a conveyor. components are added when it moves from one work station to another until the final product is assembled
Mass production
production of large amounts of standardized products in production lines. allows high rates of production per worker
Mass customization production
sophisticated CIM system that manufactures products to individual costumer orders. benefits of economy of scale are gained whether the order is for 1 item or thousands
Computer numerical control (CNC)
- computer control machines
- used to manufacture complex parts in metals or other materials.
- machines are controlled by a program called “g code”. each code is assigned to a particular operation or process.
- the codes control x, y,z movements and feed speeds
