products, services, processes that reduce waste and require the minimum amount of non-renewable resources
End-of-pipe tech
technology used to reduce pollutants and waste at the end of the process
Incremental solutions for cleaning up manufacturing
gradual improvements of technologies or approaches to manufacturing over time
ADV: exploit existing technologies, no need to invest large quantities
DIS: need to make small changes in a more frequent basis
Radical solutions for cleaning up manufacturing
new and often untried approach
ADV: exploration of new technologies
DIS: required expensive R&D
System level solutions
Implemented to deal with the whole system, rather than just components
