An air sac, evolved from a simple lung, that maintains the neutral buoyancy of fish by adjusting its inflation through gas exchange. Buoyancy no gas exchange.

Ossified endoskeleton, lateral line system, bony scales, external fertilization
Ray-Finned Fish
Fins supported by long, flexible rays, >99%.
Lobe-Finned Fish
Fleshy, muscular pectoral and pelvic fins w/ bony elements, Lobed Fins
Coelacanths
Lobe-finned fish that swim and walk in shallow water.
Lungfish
Lobe-finned fish that gas exchange via gills and lungs
Operculum
A plate of dermal bone that covers and protects the gills
