Topic 27 - Diaphragm Flashcards
The 5 layers of diaphragm
Pleura Fascia endothoracica M.phrenicus Fascia transversa abdominis Peritoneum
M.phrenicus
From corona muscularis. Pars costalis, pars lumbaris and pars sternalis.
Capula/dome - capsula diaphragmatica
The most cranial part of the diaphragma´s curve, which projects into thoracic cavity.
Arcus lumbocostalis and trigonum lubocostalis
An arch which connects lumbal and costal part. Beside this there is a triangular region where m.phrenicus is absent.
Centrum tendinosum
Central tendinous plate where the parts of m.phrenicus meets. Has an opening for caudal vene cava between thoracic and abdominal cavity - foramen venae cavae.
Pars lumbaris
Consist of crus dexter and crus sinister, which are arising from the 3-4 L.vertebrae and together forming an opening for aorta - hiatus aorticus. Is the crus dexter is thicker, it extends more ventrally and surrounds oespphagus - hiatus oesophageus.
Action of diaphragm
Most important inspiratory muscle. Also helps increasing abdominal pressure.
