M.gluteus medius M.gluteus superficialis M.gluteus profundus M.piriformis All of them extends the hip - the gluteus medius is the strongest. All inserts on trochanter major - except gluteus spf. which inserts on tub.glutea (below trochanter major). Originate from pelvis and vertebral column.

M.gluetus superficialis
A
O: Sacrum and first caudal vertebrae. Partly from the sacrotuberous lig. and by means of the spina iliaci dors. cran. and the deep gluteal fascia.
I: Tub.glutea (below trochanter major)
A: Extend the hip

O: Crista iliaca and the gluteal surface of iliac bone.
I: Trochanter major
A: Strongest extensor of hip joint
