Tje Cardiac Cycle Flashcards
What does the cardiac cycle do?
Pump blood around the body
What’s step 1 of the cardiac cycle?
Ventricle diastole and atrial systole
What’s step 2 of the cardiac cycle?
Ventricular systole and atrial diastole
What’s step 3 of the cardiac cycle?
Cardiac diastole
What does ventricular diastole and atrial systole involve?
Ventricles are relaxed and the atria contract decareasing the volume of the chambers and increasing the pressure inside the chambers.
This pushes the blood into the ventricles and there’s a slight increase in ventricular pressure and chamber volume.
What does ventricular systole and atrial diastole involve?
Atria relax and ventricles contract decreasing their volume and increasing their pressure. This pressure becomes higher in ventricles than atria which forces the AC valves shut to prevent back flow.
Pressure in ventricles is higher than aorta and PA which forces open the SL valves
What does cardiac diastole involve?
Ventricles and atria both relax.
Higher pressure in the PA and aorta closes the SL valves to or even back flow, blood returns to heart and atria fill again due to the high pressure therefore atria pressure increases as ventricles continue to relax and their pressure falls so AV open
