Q

How does tissue fluid form? Also known as interstitial fluid.

A

At the arterial end of a capillary bed, blood is under pressure. This forces fluid and small molecules from the blood into tissues via tiny gaps between cells of the capillary wall.

Q

What’s hydrostatic pressure?

A

“Pushing” force on water due to presence of more fluid in 1 region than another. Larger fluid volumes generate higher hydrostatic pressure

Q

How can you treat oedema?

A

Massage
Elevation
Compression
Reduce salt intake
Moving and using the muscles in the pet of your body affected by oedema, especially your legs may help pump the excess fluid back toward your heart.
