How do you carry out the practical?

A

Cut 5 prices of beetroot with a scalpel and rinse to release any pigment when cutting
Place 5cm3 of water into 5 test tubes using a measuring cylinder
Place the test tubes in different water baths - 10,20,30,40,50 for 5 mins
Place beetroot into test tubes and leave for 5 mins
Remove beetroot and leave the coloured water in test tubes

How do you use a colourimeter to measure absorbency by beetroot?

A

Switch colorimeter on and switch to correct controls
Place your control water sample into a cuvette using a pipette into colorimeter
Record absorbable of it and repeat for the other 4 different coloured pigments
Record and analyse results
