Tissues Flashcards
Simple squamous epithelial
epithelial membranes and lines blood vessels
Columnar epithelial
in the digestive tract
Pseudo stratified
ciliated columnar is charastic of the upper respiratory tract.
transitional
streches and is found in the bladder
Cuboidal
lines ducts and sweat glands
Connective Tissue
Support, protect and binds organs
Matrix
consists of fibres such as collagen, elastin and ground fluid
Areolar connective tissue
contains all 3 fibre types. is used to attach skin and underlying tissues and as a packaging between glands, muscles and nerves.
Adipose
in subcutaneous layer and around organs and joints. reduces heat loss and serves as padding and energy source.
Dense regular connective
comprises tendons ligaments and other strong attachments where the need for strength is needed along one axis
Elastic Connective
mainly fibroblasts and free branching elastic fibres, it allows stretching of certain tissues such as arteries
Cartilage
ow blood supply and grows/repairs slow
Hyaline
he most abundant. Provides a smooth surface. It covers ends of long bones, and parts of the ribs, nose, trachea, bronchi and larynx.
Fibrocartilage
Thick bundles of collagen, strong & tough. It forms discs in-between vertebrae and knee joints to support the weight of the body.
Bone
- Connective tissue with extracellular matrix
