Tissue Types Flashcards
what are the 4 tissue types?
epithelial, connective, nervous, muscle.
what is the function of epithelial tissue?
lines body surfaces, cavities, tubules.
important in absorption, protection, secretion.
whats the function of connective tissue?
supports body parts and connects them together.
whats the function of nervous tissue?
conducts nerve impulses by reacting to stimuli.
important in coordinating bodily functions.
whats the function of muscle tissue?
allows body movement.
allows movement of individual structures in the body.
what are the 4 examples of specialised tissues in animals?
cartilage, ciliated epithelial, squamous epithelial, muscle.
whats the function & description of squamous epithelial tissue?
made of smooth, flattened cells.
lines the inside of blood vessels and alveoli
whats the function & description of muscle tissue?
made of many muscle cells that all contract in the same direction.
whats the function & description of cartilage tissue?
strong tissue that is used to make tendons, connective tissue & bones.
whats the function & description of ciliated epithelial tissue?
made of ciliated & goblet cells.
goblet - produce mucus.
cilia - wafter mucus away from lungs.
